Anxiety Tests -
Can Fear Be Measured?
Many anxiety tests are available online for you to complete for free. The correct anxiety self test for you will be the anxiety disorder test that ‘speaks’ to you and feels like the best fit for your symptoms.
So back to the question – can fear be measured, and if so, which anxiety disorder quiz or anxiety scale is your best fit?
There are several different professional anxiety tests which are now easily accessible online to help people determine the degree to which anxiety is interfering with their daily life. While these tests can be valuable tools that help some people express what they are experiencing and get the professional help they need, they are only the starting point to treating anxiety disorders.
The three most commonly used anxiety tests include the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Test, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale. All three tests were developed by well respected doctors who completed extensive research and studies into anxiety disorders and they have all been valued tools used by medical professionals for many years,
Yet, is it possible that by answering 12-24 questions and rating the frequency of some very basic anxiety symptoms, someone can officially be diagnosed with an anxiety problem?
The answer here is a clear no. Taking one of these tests will help you determine what some of your predominant symptoms are and get an idea if you are suffering with a more severe or mild anxiety problem, but they are not diagnostic tools. You will need the professional assistance of a doctor to determine if you are suffering from generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, a social phobia, or some other classification of anxiety.
All of our bodies, minds, and life experiences are different. How anxiety presents itself in one person is almost never the exact same as how it presents itself in someone else. That isn't to say that one person's symptoms are not more traumatic or dangerous than the other because a lot of it has to do with how the person reacts to the anxiety and how frequently it comes over them.
Those who suffer from anxiety should never try to compare their symptoms or the results of their tests with other people. They need to find their own path to recovery and learn to manage their individual symptoms in the best manner possible. Trying to compare to others in order to downgrade your own condition only makes matters worse.
Just as symptoms vary from one person to another, so will the best course of treatment for anxiety disorders. For one person extensive therapy or immersion therapy may work wonders while for someone else talking about their issues or facing their fears will only make things seem far worse. It all comes down to the individual.
Anxiety quizzes can be a very useful tool, but they should be a starting out point rather than a final destination. Those who struggle to express their symptoms or explain how sever they are will find anxiety tests to be very useful since they put those things down on paper so a doctor can connect the dots for them.Anxiety tests can also be the final push that many people need to decide to see professional help or seek out other resources for controlling their anxiety. Being scored as having a moderate or severe level of anxiety can be a turning point where the decision to get help is made.
The question of whether fear and anxiety can be measured receives a mixed response. For some people, tests can be valuable tools while for others they don't seem as useful. Everyone needs to seriously look at their own condition and get the help that works best for them.
Recovery from anxiety is a very personal journey!
