9 year old son seeing lights at night

Q: My 9 year old son has been seeing lights at night. Some sparkly others just blobs of gray. A few jagged and golden.

Could this be a migraine issue even though he doesn't have a migraine? He sees the lights mostly in our room. He has had these before and never told me until now.

He had one early in the morning yesterday when he had slept on our floor because we had movie night the night before. It was still dark out when he saw them under our bed. He was scared but not too frightened to where he was terrified.

Then he had one last night while the lamp in our bedroom was on. He was going to sleep on the floor again instead of in his room to see if he would see the lights. Well once he laid down he had his head burrowed under his blanket because he was afraid to see the lights. Within 10 minutes of us laying down he flips out with fear telling me he sees a light sitting on his hand.

He was shaking and crying refusing to sleep alone. I then asked if he wanted to sleep in his room where he doesn't see them. He then told me he has seen them once or twice in there as well.

I'm afraid that I have drawn too much attention to it to where he is scared of them now more than ever. He thinks they are ghosts. I thought they were too at first. Or spirits. Since that talk that is what he thinks he is seeing. Although it very well could be a medical issue.

What confuses me is if it is a migraine symptom then why does it only happen during bedtime? He doesn't experience this during the day. He is also wide awake when these happen. I'm also going to talk to his doctor as well. Thank you so much!

Eva's response: Well, from my perspective it's once of two things: Either panic attacks with tricks of vision (these used to happen to me at night) or he is indeed seeing some spirits.

Either way, your poor boy is scared, and really needs to be reassured that you believe what he is seeing, and that these lights cannot hurt him.

The "Archangel Michael" talk will come in handy as well. It's good to know that there's always a warrior looking out for him!

Lastly, I'm glad you're going to see your doctor. He can rule out things like migraine.

I have found homeopathic remedies work very well on my son. Check at your drug store and see if there's a homeopathic sleep remedy that is suitable for kids.

Best of luck!
