101 Ways to Reduce Stress – Top Stress Reducers

This list is the best 101 ways to reduce stress quickly and easily. Handling stress will become easier as you calm your panic attack symptoms.

Stress is one of the leading causes of anxiety and depression. You will find at least one item on this list of 101 ways to reduce stress that will help you learn how to deal with stress.

1. Spend time in nature
2. Walk every day instead of taking the car
3. Eat lunch in the park
4. Go to the beach/country/mountains/forest at the weekend
5. Go camping
6. Grow a herb garden
7. Grow indoor plants – tropical plants love the humidity of a light and bright bathroom
8. Go for a brisk ocean swim
9. Go hiking
10. Have a picnic
11. Go for a bike ride
12. Go to the zoo
13. Walk on your front lawn with no shoes
14. Go for a country/mountain/coastal drive
15. Go wildlife watching
16. Play some form of outdoor sport
17. Access sunshine
18. Take a nap
19. Take some arty photos just for the heck of it
20. Quit smoking
21. Have a healthier diet
22. Eat fish
23. Drink tea
24. Spend time in nature
25. Breathe (in for a count of three, out for a count of three)

(So that was the first 25 of the 101 ways to reduce stress. The next section I grouped into categories:)

26. Play. Just play like a kid. If you need some inspiration:
27. Climb trees
28. Build sandcastles
29. Finger paint
30. Turn on some music and dance like nobody’s watching
31. Sing (in the shower, in the car, in public, who cares?)
32. Fly a kite
33. Bake a cake

(Playing is my favorite of the 101 ways to reduce stress. Why do adults forget to have fun? Well, if playing isn't really your thing, maybe the next category will be:)

34. An adrenalin rush can actually release endorphins which have a calming effect afterwards. The following activities can take your mind off stress by giving you something else to worry about:
35. Take a joy flight in a glider
36. Rock climbing
37. Abseiling
38. Sky diving
39. Bungee jumping
40. ATV-ing
41. White water rafting

(My husband finds that a good adrenalin rush tops his list of 101 ways to reduce stress. But we're not all sporty adrenalin -junkie types. Some of us work way too long hours, for example.)

42. If you can’t get outside very often, here are some tips to bring the outdoors in:
43. Open windows and let the air and light in
44. Grow an indoor herb garden
45. Try aromatherapy by burning 100% pure essential oils
46. Get a pet! Like a dog, cat or bird
47. Buy or pick a bunch of fresh flowers and put them in a vase
48. A small water feature can create a relaxing atmosphere and is good feng shui
49. Wind chimes make a relaxing tinkling sound
50. You can also bring nature into your workplace:
51. Put up a picture of nature at your work desk
52. Set up a crystal garden (just a display of different types of crystals)
53. Set up a fish bowl. Put water and a fish in it. Name him Charlie.
54. Set up a Zen raking garden on your desk. If nothing else, it’s a great distraction!
55. Hang a picture of some outdoor scenery (I used to have a large, bright poster of a tropical beach, as my office had no windows or sunlight!)
56. Incorporate feng shui into your work space. Hang a picture of a mountain behind you (symbolizing support), place a mirror in the direction you are facing (so you can always see behind you) and place a figuring of a rooster on your desk (stops gossip)

(Eva's side note: tip 57 is my all-time favorite of the 101 ways to reduce stress...)

57. Keep a calendar near your desk which counts down until your next big goal, such as a vacation, or paying off your mortgage. This reminds you that, despite your stress, you are working towards a goal.
58. Take all your vacation days.

59. Make sure you are sleeping enough:
60. Go to bed around the same time each night
61. Have a ‘before bed’ routine (such as shower, brush teeth, bed) that your body can associate with winding down for the day
62. Avoid getting addicted to sleeping pills. If you need a sleeping pill any longer than 2 nights in a row, you’re headed for trouble.
63. Wake up at the same time each day. If you have kids, try to wake up 10-15 minutes before they do, to get a head-start on the day.
64. Once (or twice!) a week, have a sleep-in.
65. If you need to go to bed early, do your entire bed time routine early as well.
66. Learn to manage your time.
67. Don’t take on any extra work without a payoff.
68. Learn to say “No”
69. Sometimes it’s ok to say “I don’t know”
70. Sometimes it’s ok to let someone else take over a situation
71. Always ask for help if you are struggling
72. Take at least 15 minutes of “me-time” each day and do something that you find relaxing.

(Just as this list of 101 ways to reduce stress emphasizes putting yourself first, being kind to those around you will really help you.)

73. Remember to be polite. A “please” and “thank you” will go a long way. People remember it and karma will reward you.
74. Understand that everybody is human. We all make mistakes.
75. Listen to a full story before coming to a conclusion
76. Withhold your judgment of other people
77. If a story doesn’t sound right, do your own investigation.
78. Take a moment to think about what you want. Even about something small.
79. Set a goal to achieve what you want. However big, or however small.
80. Create a plan of how to achieve that goal.
81. Commit to action on the plan.
82. See what you can cut out of your life. Is a person in particular getting you down? Try to resolve the situation, otherwise cut that person from your life.
83. Surround yourself with optimistic, life-affirming people.
84. Laugh. A big belly laugh. Rent a hilarious DVD if you need some inspiration.
85. Become your own best friend. I have a great 7-day course that will help you do this by getting to know your aura.
86. Help somebody. This could be a friend or a stranger.
87. Do some fulfilling volunteer work.
88. Get in touch with an old friend. Not by email or Facebook, but by phone or letter.
89. Celebrate payday
90. Manage your money. This comes back to goals.

(One of the top causes of stress comes from feeling stuck in a rut and not knowing how to escape. Tip 91 in this list of 101 ways to reduce stress really helped me...)

91. Learn a new skill – such as woodwork, pottery or build a website!
92. Just escape life’s “hectic-ness” every so often and be still.
93. Drink more water.
94. Eat more fruits and vegetables.
95. Try visualizations
96. Back up your visualizations with affirmations
97. Start a gratitude journal – at the end of the day, list 5 things you are grateful for.
98. As you’re going off to sleep at the end of each day, if an event pops into your head that stresses you, re-play it in your mind the way you would like to see it happen.
99. Think of something that immediately makes you feel good. It might be kittens, a baby or a loved-one. Every time you feel stressed, call that image to your mind and you will feel better.
100. Learn how to practice meditation

(And, finally, the lucky last tip on this list of 101 ways to reduce stress, that a lot of people know about but hardly ever do. If you just did this, it would help you greatly...)

101. Meditate regularly, keeping your aura cleansed and protected with these free exercises.

So, there it is. 101 ways to reduce stress. I hope you found something on the list above that you can incorporate into your daily life which will help you to feel calmer and more in control.
